So we are off. So, it’s the start
of a new year. The time when we make our new year resolutions. These are
normally resolutions to change our lives for the better.

doing the same thing, but expecting a different result: they say it’s a sign of
insanity.

January…it’s often cold, the days
are short and dark, the festivities are over, and its back to the grind for
another year. It’s not the easiest time to ditch the warm, rich, stodgy, comfort

going to be successful we may have to knock the booze on the head. Argh…. it
almost seems impossible! Then, add to that all the chatter of your friends
talking about signing up for yet another gym membership. But don’t beat
yourself up, because you’re not alone: most people will have ditched the
project well before the end of January.
Why Do New Year Weight Loss Efforts Fail
January 1st, a whopping six months
until the summer, and we’ve just gone through the shortest day of the year. So
not only is it dark, cold, depressing, but now the scales say you have put on
even more weight. In our minds we can clearly see the reasons why we need to
introduce change into our lives.
We understand the health benefits of losing weight. And we
know how good it feels to be at our target weight. We also know how to do it,
it’s not rocket science.
Everything is Stacked Against You
Psychologically, the reason so many
weight loss attempts fail, is down to three things. Firstly, in most cases, the
weight loss goals we set ourselves are unrealistic. It is vital that the goal
is both realistic and achievable.
Secondly, the goals we set are
often vague. A vague statement, “this year I am going to lose weight” is just
not going to cut it at a cognitive level. It must be more specific. Finally, we
need to commit to a serious plan. You know what they say: “If you fail to plan
you plan to fail” it is so true, in this scenario.

Easter Sunday falls on the 17th
April, just, fourteen weeks away. A realistic weight loss, that is both
realistic and achievable, would be a weight loss of around 30 pounds. You can,
carry on, of course, if you need to lose more. But how will you do it? What
will be different this time? Well, let’s make a plan, one we can stick to. Some
things will have to go, a few, maybe temporary, changes will need to be
introduced.
